Frequently Asked Questions

Feel free to give us a call with any questions you may have.

What is a sick visit?

A sick visit is an office visit that occurs when you’re not feeling well or have specific symptoms. By contrast, well visits take place when you aren’t ill – for instance, to perform an annual physical exam or for preventive care or ongoing treatment of a chronic condition like heart disease.

What happens during a sick visit?

Sick visits begin with a review of your symptoms to help determine the illness or condition you may be facing, followed by an exam and evaluation to uncover the cause of your symptoms. Lab work including blood tests and urinalysis may be performed, and diagnostic imaging tests may also be ordered. Based on those findings, you’ll receive treatment aimed at relieving symptoms and addressing the underlying condition that’s causing them.

What symptoms indicate I should see the doctor?

Generally, any time you feel ill or like something is “off” or unusual with regard to your physical or mental health, it’s a good time to call and schedule a sick visit. Some of the most common symptoms indicating you may need to be evaluated include:

  • fever of 103° F or higher or a lower fever that persists despite treatment

  • diarrhea that lasts longer than a day (or less in seniors)

  • blood in your stool

  • vomiting that lasts for more than a day (or less in seniors)

  • chronic cough which may or may not include mucous

  • chronic heartburn

  • persistent sore throat or earache

  • chronic or severe headache

  • persistent abdominal pain

  • feelings of hopelessness, despair or persistent sadness

  • issues with vision, hearing or other senses

When it comes to your health, you’re usually the best judge of when you’re experiencing symptoms that are out of the ordinary. Seeing a doctor for a sick visit helps ensure you’ll get the care you need to avoid major illnesses and diseases.
